Excuse the sequence, but trying to determine what's going on with a
message posted via google groups.

The original message of this thread never made it to the ms server.

Not sure why, but in any case, if you posted critical issues recently
and got no response, repost directly to the server at
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.pocketpc.... to assure that
it will be seen.

I am having an issue with connecting to a PC via ActiveSync 4.1 and
downloading files from the PC's FTP site. If it was possible to simply
use ActiveSync's sync ability, I would, but this is for a client and
using FTP file transfers is the way it has to be.
Anyway, my issue is this. I place the device into the cradle, it
establishes an ActiveSync connection first and the proceeds to make a
connection to the FTP site using the IP address assigned to the PC by
ActiveSync (192.168.55.100). This all works fine. I am able to check
file sizes on the FTP site without any trouble either. The problem
occurs when I try to actually download files. When I try to receive a
file via FTP I encounter an error. The device tries to download the
file but is unable to. From some of my logging, I have been able to
figure out the problem. The FTP host returns the message "227 Entering
Passive Mode (127,0,0,1,4,52).". The problem with this message is that
the IP address is 127.0.0.1 which cannot be used by the device.
Now, using ActiveSync 3.8, I had managed to get everything to work by
following these steps:
1) Connect to the FTP Site using the ActiveSync assigned IP address
192.168.55.100.
2) Obtain the Host PC's actual IP address.
3) Disconnect and reconnect to the FTP site using the Machine's actual
IP address.
4) Proceed with the downloading of files.

Upon upgrading to 4.1, however, I am unable to follow these same steps.
All of them can be performed as before, but now when I download files
it doesn't work. It is as if I simply skipped steps 2 & 3 above (which
were put in to get around this very problem).

Is there any difference in how ActiveSync 4.1 might handle device IPs
and might there be a way for me to get this working again? I am
looking for a solution that may be as simple as possible since this is
already being used with 3.8 and if an upgrade to 4.1 is necessary, we
would like the transition to be as smooth as possible.

Thanks in advance for any assistance and let me know if more
information is needed.
