I have browsed through the posting, and I haven't seen a fix, I just bought a
vista pc, and want to sync with my outlook 07. Luckily I had backed up my
contacts on a server, but everytime I try to sync, Windows device center
erases all my contacts and calendar! Does anyone know how to fix this?
I already changed the setting where if there is a device conflict, the PDA
wins, but that doesnt work

Ok, I figured it out....after the fact by the way.

Turns out that with this program syncing will use ONLY the information that
is on the last device updated. I had installed office 2007 after having WMDC
, so syncing saw the outlook as the most up to date, and therefore wiped out
all my contacts and calendar. I added my contacts from the backup server,
then synced again, and now contacts are on PC and mobile device. Never had
this problem with activesync

Probably never did exactly that with AS. I expect it would do the same.

Note that a conflict only exists if you have changed the data on both the PC
and the device. That is by item, i.e. changing the phone number on the
device, and the address on the PC of the same contact. With that 'conflict'
you will loose one of those changes, depending on how you have conflict
resolution set. A deletion always wins, and as you supposed, the fresh copy
of Outlook, apparently looked like you deleted every contact. You could have
gotten around this by deleting the partnership, installing Outlook and then
re-establishing the partnership. In that event, you would have been given
the opportunity to combine data sets, or it would have just done so, since
it was the initial sync.

Your way was of course quite effective too. Any time you are going to do
something potentially dangerous it is good to back up first.

hi all

I recently purchased a vista machine after XP machine died.
My contacts and calander are very important to me and i was so worried
something would happen to my phone before i got a new PC that i left it at
home as it was my only source of all my vital information.

One i got this new PC resyncing all my data was of very high priority to me,
imagine my heartbreak when after 5 mins of thinking i was backing up my data
it was actually being destroyed.

Now my contacts, calander are gone and i see no way of retrieving them, i
took my old harddrive to a specialist recovery company to try to get back the
data from it but it had failed catastophically so no luck there.

Is there any backups stored by the WM6 device? or a way to retrieve all my
valuble data?

Im at a real loss here :'(
