Thanks for the quick reply. Here's what I see:
My COM ports seem to be the issue here. In looking at
your example, you have both the DUN and SPP services
checked in the BT Device properties. This then assigns
two COM ports. I don't believe I need DUN for my
purposes, correct?
Assuming I don't need DUN, here's what I see:
In T-Mobile (my device name) Properties, Services tab:
DUN (Unchecked, so no port assigned)
SPP COM5
In the BT Devices, COM Ports tab:
COM5 Outgoing T-Mobile 'Bluetooth Serial Port'
COM7 Incoming
In ActiveSync, Connection Settings, COM3, COM 5 and COM7
are available. If I select COM5 (which would seem to be
the logical choice), ActiveSync searches for the device,
but can't find it and gives me an error message. If I
delete this port and select COM7, I can initiate a
connection from the iPAQ and all is well. Does this mean
that the SPP service (and the resulting assigned COM5
port) aren't necessary?
My only issue now is that the settings seem to be fluid -
if I pull the Bluetooth USB key and then reinsert it (as
I need to do when I travel), the COM port seems to either
get lost or ActiveSync defaults back to COM3. I need to
remove and re-add it in the BT devices, COM Ports tab.
Is there a way to preserve the settings and hold the COM
port, or to use COM3 as the BT port? This wasn't a
problem when I was using Belkin's software, pre-SP2.
Finally, and these are secondary issues, Network
Connections lists the BT connection in the PAN section,
and it's labeled as "Bluetooth Device - Personal Area
Network #2". Does that mean this is a second installed
instance? (I don't want to be clogging up Registry with
a bunch of different entries here.) Also, when I right-
click on this Bluetooth Network Connection and select
View Bluetooth Network Devices, the resulting dialog box
shows two of the T-Mobile devices, either of which I can
connect to (they seem like the same device), and if I
delete one of them, they both get deleted. Confusing.
So that's a lot of detail. Tried to be thorough so you
had as much info as possible.
Thanks.
