It could be that the iPaq is messed up - you may have to perform a
hard reset to get it working again. Back up your unit (and back up
your \My Documents directory on the iPaq if you don't have file sync
enabled), then perform a hard reset but do not restore from the
backup! Put the unit in the cradle and see if it's recognized - if it
is, then the problem is solved and you'll just have to recreate the
partnership and reinstall any programs. If not... restore the backup
and reply to this post.

That's with a hard reset, no restoring of the backup? You aren't
running any firewall software beyond the built-in firewall with
Windows XP? Can you try updating the drivers for your system
(motherboard, USB peripherals, video card...)?

Try reinstalling any USB or motherboard drivers on the notebook...
also try switching the port it plugs into. If the notebook is using a
docking station, plug the device directly into the notebook.
