Server ActiveSync needs to work on Port 80 or 443 as I understand it. I do
not believe you can force it to use port 81. It is using HTTP protocol, not
SMTP. However you may want to adjust it in the server settings to
mail.manster.com:81 and see if it works.

set it in the settings within active sync on the PDA. Enable SSL on the
server, it will work with no VPN, but you should have a certificate
installed on the server.
