It is, without a doubt, the most frustrating thing I have experienced since purchasing a computer several years ago, and I can only stand so much frustration. I've recently come across something called Intellisync. Do any of you have experience with that? Is it more reliable than ActiveSync, or would a purchase only lead to more frustration? Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just take a look at the posts in this newsgroup. 90% of them are trying
to resolve ActiveSync problems. I've wrestled with ActiveSync in its
various manifestations, beginning with HPC Explorer. Sorry, Microsoft,
but ActiveSync just plain sucks. I understand the complexity of the
concept of synchronizing, and that this may cause issues depending upon
how a given user configures ActiveSync. Microsoft's history has been
one of hiding such complexity under an intuitive API. In this regard,
and with respect to ActiveSync's overall stability, I think Microsoft
has failed miserably. I know many people who use PDA's based on Windows
Mobile, and of them, I know of NOBODY who hasn't had problems and
frustrations with ActiveSync. I'm running ActiveSync 3.8, connecting
with a Dell Axim X5 that runs Windows Mobile 2003. You'd think that,
given the currency of such a setup, that my sync'ing problems would, for
the most part, be behind me. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Each new release provides virtually no additional stability and often
introduces problems.

At the very least, give us a "Cancel" option that interrupts a sync or
connection attempt. We shouldn't have to download a separate "utility"
(a euphemism in this case) called "asreboot.exe" to kill a stuck
ActiveSync session. That is just ridiculous.

Listen Microsoft, I've been a software engineer for nearly 30 years, so
it's not like I'm PC neophyte. If I'm having such problems with your
product, I can't imagine how those less familiar with PCs than me could
possibly meet with much success.

I'd ultimately like to jettison my PDA and move to a smartphone, but I
simply WILL NOT buy a Windows Mobile-based smartphone until Microsoft
resolves their ActiveSync fiasco.

Come on, Microsoft. You can do better... Much better.
