That's only on XP Pro. Home edition doesn't have it.

Presumably you have Vista Home?
Are you saying that the built-in Administrator account is visible?

I think you do it in the same way as XP. Go to Control panel-Users and
change the way Users login, ie uncheck "use the welcome screen".
Then do Start-run-gpedit.msc and change the settings there just like in
XP....

The OP might try running cmd as administrator and executing the command

net user Administrator /active:no

Change no to yes to restore it.

That's what I do from my standard administrator account on Home Premium
64...

You are looking in Control panel-User Accounts? I'm pretty sure it's there
somewhere because I seem to recall doing it myself. Can't be of much further
assistance as I've moved on to Windows 7...

If you type it in Help it says

In Windows XP, the Welcome screen could be turned on or off. In this version
of Windows, the Welcome Screen can't be turned off. Fast User Switching is
turned on by default.
