What version of WLMessenger is installed?

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3) and *only until* 14 Apr-09.
(Chat and e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.)
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=1173 | select
"Windows XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"

Is Automatic Updates enabled?

Can you do the following successfully?...

1. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com;

2. Install any required Windows Update-related software, if offered, then
click CONTINUE;

3. Select CUSTOM and scan;

4. Select & install any critical security updates offered; follow all
prompts.

NB: I would not recommend installing IE7 via Windows Update if it's not
already installed. If IE7 is already installed, look for a Root
Certificates update in Optional category; if it's available, install it to
take full advantage of IE7's enhanced security. (Root Certificates updates
are not offered via Automatic Updates, for some unfathomable reason.)

Hi,

i don't have a straight answer to your problem, but it might
be an idea just to try to install an other webcam.

maybe it is possible to borrow one and see how it turns
out. it's not the best idea, but spending lots and lots of time
can be very frustrating.

good luck with it

well ya obviously i have all the updates off windows update... but no worries
it was the version 8.5 of WLM that was the problem. some glitch in it i
guess. because i just installed the newest one, the 2009 version and the cam
works fine once again.
so it was a WLM screw up

ok so never mind, i talked too fast, in the new version i was able to go into
the main setup for audio and video without WLM freezing up. but when i start
the webcam in a convo it works right up until the other person accepts the
invitation. the all hell brakes loose and freezes right back up.

Unfortunately you've still not answered either of my question so I have
nothing further to add to this conversation.

and what about the option to install another webcam?

some shops offer the possibility to bring stuff back when it is not damaged.
(most of them
will pay cash back too in my country)
Maybe you can buy one, if it works then you know the problem is something
with the
webcam or driver from the webcam. If it's not working, then you can check
other things.

I got once usb1 cam plugged into an usb2.0 card. Got lots of trouble.
After buying an usb2.0 cam it works fine.

Maybe it is the usb slot itselfs, there are active and passive usb slots.
Hard to explain, but see it as if there is power on the usb slot itselfs.
Usb1 slots will often not recongnize the newer usb harddisks which don't
need an external power supply.
The power comes from the usb slot. Same problem with my scanner. It needs
the power from the usb slot,
there is no power supply needed for it.
But some usb slots are 'passive', and will not work with my scanner.
Solution is to buy (try) an usb hub with power suppy.

Succes with it !
