this is what my registry has for '.bat' files, Vista Home Premium, SP2
.........
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bat]
@="batfile"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bat\PersistentHandler]
@="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"
..........
the more likely cause is that you at some time forced the use of MSWord as
the default for '.bat' . (MS Word would not be default editor, Notepad would
be the normal edit default).
