Quite possibly a brand spankin' newly infected system. If you have
another working computer, download a free personal firewall (google).
Install first on the working computer. On the working computer also
download and install spybot and ad-aware and update the virus defs. Do
complete virus, spybot, and ad-aware scans.
Disconnect the non-working computer from DSL. Format and reinstall the
OS from whatever OS CD or restore CD you have. Make sure the trial
anti-virus is working, but do not connect to the internet until you have
installed the free firewall, spybot, ad-aware from the working and
sanitized computer via CD. After the firewall is installed and working,
then connect to internet and update your virus defs first then try
windows update again.
