Greetings Ray,

Yes, in order to use Remote Assistance in Windows Live Messenger, you need the latest version
of Windows Messenger installed (not Live, it's a separate product).

You can grab it from here:

I have the same issue, but when I go to get Windows Messegnger it says it is
incompatible with Vista and that I should upgrade to Live Messenger which I
already have!!
