Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 wintrust.dll
Press enter and wait for the successful message

If that doesn't help

I have the same problem for the past few days, and I have tried everything
that Taurarian has described, including following the steps mentioned at the
telus.net website. But nothing helped! The updates downloads (including the
high priority updates and SP2), but do not install and I get "Unable to
install successfully" error message without any message number. Can someone
please help?

Hi

You could clean out this folder (WU5's temporary download
folder) to get rid of temporary installation files from
your previous installation attempts:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

Thank you all for your suggestions. I guess MS itself has not yet been able
to think up a solution to these woes, because I noticed in the posts of this
forum that even the MVPs in most cases could not come up with a solution to
similar problems, apart from pointing to some external websites. I tried
everything suggested in these posts, but nothing was of any help. So, in
order to resolve this once and for all, I did the final irretrievable step -
I backed up my data, swallowed my pride (in my computer), and reinstalled the
OS after reformating the hard disk. After I did that, ALL the updates,
including SP2, installed like a dream and my computer is running perfectly
again - Touch wood!
