Hi Andy,
That was a very well-written description of your situation.... however...
You happened to send it to a public news group. It is a group of users
(like you) who may or may not know a lot about the topic of discussion.
While it is a great source of useful information (not to mention amusement
at times), it is NOT a source for information from the Microsoft Corporation
per se. Many Microsoft employees post, as well as other people that
Microsoft has recognized as experts in the particular field.... but it is
not the place to send a message if you expect Microsoft to give you a reply.
Now that that's out of the way...have you tried the following?
1) Delete your Temporary Internet files (In Explorer... Tools/Internet
Options/ click Delete Files
2) While you're in there: click Settings then View Objects. Delete any
items that do not have Installed as a STATUS (e.g. 'damaged' or 'unknown')
3) OK, and accept you way out.
4) Finally, check that the date and time on your PC are correct. If your
machine thinks it's some time too far in the past, your passport will not
work.
Hope those suggestions help. Post again, with your results,
Surf Happy,
