I had the same problem with windows update for just this one internet explorer
update, it failed every time. After uninstalling everything I could and disabling
anything I couldn't uninstall I started to get a little upset.
I decided to undo a change in the registry that I had made a month ago. It's a simple
change of the default programs folder, I changed it from c: to f: so any new programs
would be installed on the f: drive by default. That fixed it!
Yea. You might want to check to see if yours has been changed. Open regedit from the
run box and drill down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion
check the key named "ProgramFilesDir" mine was set to f:\Program Files and I set it
back to c:\Program Files.
