Had the USB key ever been used on any computer before? If it had, you're
back to Square One.

Did you take care of EVERYTHING on the following webpage before otherwise
connecting the machine to the internet or any networks or inserting a USB
key?

5 steps to help protect your new computer before you go online
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/com...nced/xppc.mspx

If not, you're back to Square One.

Do you mean you downloaded them using a different computer? Or is the problem
machine already connected to the internet at this point? If so, how?

If you used a different computer, have you made sure that computer is not
infected? What about your external hard drive?

What exactly happens at this point? By this I mean, what happens that shows you
that the virus is now installed?

Also, please define "connect to the internet" in more detail.

Harry.

Go to this web site 'Simply Super Software - Trojan Remover'
(http://www.simplysup.com/) and d/l Trojan Remover. I had the same
problem you have. The problem ended up with my computer being infected
with a DNS redirector which would send any attempt to go to the Windows
Update page and my Virus scanner making updates fail and go to the
Google English page.

I found out that a friend of my daughter gave her an infected progra
that caused this problem for me. Anyway Trojan Remover ( 30 day eval ver
) cleaned me up to the point that my virus scanner updates.

I am still having some hang problem with the Windows update site but a
least I am able to get there now.
