It mucked up mt brand new Dell 1720 and my Desktop. On the Dell the latest
drivers refused to believe that the PC was running Vista. Looking into t he
problem a bit more I can see that Vista has now decided to share 1.2 GBytes
of memory with the 256MB video card in the portable and 1GByte in the
desktop. (Both have 4GBytes or RAM). It used to share about 500MB in the
portable and 256MByte in Desktop. I think this has contributed towards

a) Vista no longer thinking the card is capable of Direct3D
b) The ATI drivers failing as they can't handle a card with 1.5Gbytes of RAM.

Never bothered looking into the disabling of the RAM sharing but that has to
be the first place to start.

I might try some utilities to remove all remnants of the ATI drivers as well.

First time in these forums so I do not know if it may have been of help to
cross post this one...
