You can export your buddy list from messenger (contacts->save contacts) and
import it as your new user. While passport does support rename, messenger
does not currently, so this is your best bet.

Hi,

Actually Messenger has supported rename for quite some time now (as in years)... It was gone
for awhile for non-MSN registered accounts due to the live.com screw-up. It's back now,
although the primary link on account.live.com only allows to switch to a hotmail.com address,
there is a hidden link that allows you to change it to anything you want AND your contacts
get propagated.
