If your computer came with Windows 2000 installed, I would doubt that you
will have a successful upgrade. Run the Upgrade Advisor first.

Why do you want to upgrade? Do you have a piece of software that requires
it? Do you have a piece of hardware that requires it? If not, stay calm and
wait until either of those come to reality. Most olders systems are simply
overwhelmed by Windows Vista. I urge you to wait until you buy a new
computer.
To answer your question, Microsoft says:
"If you are currently using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP
Professional x64, you are eligible for an upgrade copy to a corresponding or
better edition of Windows Vista, but a clean installation is required."
