Problem:
You installed Shark007's Vista Codec Pack (32-bit), but it doesn't seem to
work.
Solution:
Go into \Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\ and start wmplayer.exe.
Click on AVI file you want to view and it should work.
Recommendation:
Create a shortcut for \Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
to Desktop and/or Quick Launch.
Explanation:
The Vista Codec Pack is for Windows Media Player 32-bit.
There are two versions of Windows Media Player on Vista x64, 32-bit and
64-bit.
64-bit \Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
32-bit \Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
If you click on an AVI or any media that WMP is associated with, by default
it will start the 64-bit WMP (for which you did not install any codecs).
If you already have 32-bit WMP open, then clicking on AVI file causes it to
use 32-bit WMP (and use the 32-bit codecs you installed).
64-bit WMP needs 64-bit codecs for it to work.
I use K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit 2.6.3 installed along with Vista Codec Pack
5.3.7 for 32-bit.
