First off - sounds like a motherboard chipset issue possibly on the Vista
machine. If the USB drive works on a Windows XP machine - should work fine
with Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Secondly - doubtful any folders were password protected (unless you are
speaking of a ZIP file/folder or the Encrypted File System) - but
file/folder permissions and/or ownership could be a concern.
