Greetings,
Unfortunately when you remove someone from your Windows Live Profile they'll also be removed
from your Messenger contact list.
What you can do however is first verify they're on your privacy allow or blocked list in
Messenger by opening up any Messenger window, pressing the Alt key on the keyboard to show
the menu bar, choosing the Tools menu, then Options, and then Privacy category. Find them on
either list, and if they're not there, you'll need to write down their Windows Live ID prior
to deleting them for manually re-add later.
Now, you can now close that window and then delete them from your profile/network on the
Windows Live site. After that, wait for them to disappear in Messenger (or simply sign out
and back in to speed it up), then head back into the Privacy options, right-click them again
and choose 'Add to contacts'. Your contact will not even be aware that you did this.
