RE: Continuously installing same update

Click or copy and SAVE this download patch do your desktop

Open your control panel
Open add or remove programs
Click and UNinstall MSXML 4.0 sp (KB917978)
Go back to your desktop and open the downloaded patch and choose the custom
install option when asked and proceed with the update as normal

I'm think these instructions are for a particular update (MXSML 4.0 sp) but I
have the same problem for another update (Microsoft SQL server 2008 Service
Pack 1 (KB68369)). In my case this update has successfully installed 13
times, and seems set to continue doing so infinitely.

What is a more general solution to this update problem, that is, how would
we solve this for any type of repeating update?
