I'm feeling a bit dense about this, but on a new Vista install here, but one
in which I've used IE7 extensively and have not changed the Privacy settings
off "Medium" and have never once cleared my cookies, could someone tell me
why I have six folders located under
"C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windo ws\" but not one of them
is Cookies? I have "Show hidden files and folders" enabled as well, and
I've done a search for any folders names "Cookies" and none exist.

Hi,
Go to Control Panel> Folder Options> View, uncheck "Hide protected operating
system files"

Or, when you search for cookies, click on Advanced Search and tick the box
to "Include non-indexed, hidden and system files."

Hope this helps,

Thanks, unchecking "Hide protected OS files" did it (this must be a new
thing related to IE's protected mode). Interestingly, I had tried exactly
the type of search you suggested, but it won't find the folder unless you
have the "Hide protected OS files" option unchecked, so it never found it.

I wouldn't mind keeping it unchecked normally except for such things as two
"desktop.ini" files appearing on the Desktop.

Hi,
You're welcome. It wasn't easy, but I've learned to live with the
omnipresent desktop.ini files. ;-)

I have a problem with this cookie problem also. When I uncheck the Hide
Protected Files I do not see the cookies. Then, when I select Hidden Files
and Folders I get little blue arrow symbols on every file that contains the
data and when clicking on the file get an message that the data is not
accessable. What am I doing wrong.

To see the default Cookies folder that is being used, click Start and type
shell:cookies in the results, click the cookie folder.

I'm glad I noticed this response, because this trick lets you see the folder
even if you have "Hide protected operating system files" CHECKED. Not that
I'm complaining, but why is this so? I would think if you can't see it in
Explorer (which I can't when that item is checked) I shouldn't see it with
whatever this "Shell" command is. I can even create a shortcut to the folder
once it's revealed in this way.
