PABear (and all):
Thanks. For now, I give up...I'm wasting too much time. Migrating to
a new user account is too time-consuming, and since I apparently can't
_completely_ delete IE8 and _completely_ reinstall it, I've turned it
off, and will use another browser - either Flock or Firefox.
I end up doing a clean OS installation about once a year anyway, so
this will all go away then, I'm sure.
Bottom line, for those who might have similar problems was:
- Running Windows 7 (an upgrade from Vista), and after a power outage,
neither Facebook nor My Yahoo would recognize that cookies were,
indeed, turned "on." These were the tabs that were open when the
power went out, and were the only websites affected.
- Running IE8 as another user worked fine.
- Running IE8 in "no add-ons" mode resolved the problem, but even with
all add-ons turned off, running IE8 in regular mode did not resolve
the issue.
If you're searching for a similar problem, go back through the thread,
you'll find the other things we tried, but in the end - none of it
worked for me. I started uninstalling programs, but after a couple,
decided that was _really_ going to take up my time, so I gave up.
PABear, you offered expert advice, I'm sure - but I'm out of time to
mess with this, and sadly, have real work to do starting today.
Thanks, guys.
