[adding crosspost to Windows Update newsgroup]
What happens when you try to install KB961620? Post any error messages in their entirety. Start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527 For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999). If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE, call the above number and ask to be transferred to the "Consumer IE queue" (which is 47830). Support for Windows Update: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through your usual support contacts. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.net Rajiv K Khandelwal wrote: > I am unable to install the Cumulative Security Update for Internet > Explorer > 7 for Windows Server 2003 (KB961260) on my SBS 2003. Thanks for the two responses.

How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server
Update Services installation issues: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906602 1. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527 2. You cannot install some updates or programs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 3a. Check your WindowsUpdate.log (%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log) for errors associated with the download/install. How to read the WindowsUpdate.log file http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093 3b. Compare errors to those listed here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blog...showentry=1122 and/or go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com > click on Help and Support link in left pane > Solve problems on your own. But you best bet would be contact MS Support. Good luck. -- ~PA Bear "Rajiv K Khandelwal" <> wrote in message news:... > Thanks for the two responses. > > I do not get any error message but it says that it failed to install. > > Thanks once again. > > Rajiv K. Yes, logged on as Administrator but without any benefit.
Tried another thing. Tried to install IE8 but that would not install. Wondering if I should uninstall IE7 and then install IE8. Thanks for your inputs. Rajiv K. See the support links, etc., in my first reply. The log clearly states that
KB961260 had downloaded and was ready to be installed at 16:13 local time, 23 March 2009. I expect something machine-specific must be causing the problem & MS Support can assist with that. Thanks for the advice. It was followed but without any result.
On the other hand, Microsoft FixIt has caused more problems. SQL Server stopped working and had to be re-configured. Now I find that the Fax service is not working and cannot be started. Every time it is started, it gives the following message: "The Fax service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have not work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service." I shall appreciate if some work around can be found for this. Rajiv K.
