Go back to Windows Update, but then select View update history. (When you first get to website for Microsoft Update-Windows Update, look at left-hand column, under Options. Press "Review your update history".)
If this is on V6 of Windows Update, you should be able to click on that error note (the red X), and see some info.

Post back with the info (error # & text) displayed.

It is IE6 however when I click on the red X nothing happens, nor does
anything happen if I click on the text link next too it. At the bottom of
the browser it shows the link as
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6 which is the default link to
windows update. But clicking on the X doesn't do anything.

Do you habe a Beta Preview version of IE7 installed?
If not, do you have "moved" the Program Files folder onto another
partition than the system partition?

Bye,
Freudi

Hi,

Have you by any chance "moved" the program files folder onto another
partition than Windows is installed into (using e.g. TweakUI or
something)?

The "Test.IE7InstallBlock.Section" error is often caused by that...

Hello Scubasteve,

You need to do some digging to get at the failure code & description.

If you have Internet Explorer version 6:
Place sites into Exceptions list (to get around Pop-up blocking):
Internet Explorer > main menu /Tools/Popup Blocker>Pop-up Blocker settings

In block titled "Address of Web site to allow" type in
update.microsoft.com , then click Add.
Repeat for windowsupdate.microsoft.com

then press Close.

Go back to Windows Update & just Review history.
Click on the Red X where install failure is noted.

Post back with exact wording.

BTW, does this system have a 3rd-party program to block pop-ups? Popups should be allowed in microsoft update website.
