Correct - and even then, you'd only be able to delete a post on your own server.
As soon as it was passed on to any other server, you've lost control of it.
And for some real Usenet esoteria, there is a nntp cancel message that allows
for broadcasting a cancel request. It was never 100% effective as each nntp
admin could choose to ignore cancel messages. Most major servers ignore it as it
was trivial to spoof and was the source of huge cancel wars.
