Ted,
If you mean "how do I get those lines removed from showing in history", you can't and should not.
If you mean, "how do I get a failed update to work", then you ought to provide some details.
Go back to Update History. Look at the failed line. Make a note of the fix number (usually KBwith-a-number). If using V6 of Windows Update, click on the red x to get failure information (called error code in this case).
