Backing up should not trigger an activation. Do you really mean restore?
Anyway, if you set up your computer, install and activate all your software,
and then create a system image using a program such as Acronis TrueImage,
when you have to restore your computer you will find that all programs are
still activated.
That's the whole idea behind imaging software. It takes a picture of your
system at a given time. Two years later you can go back to exactly how the
system was when you took the snap shot (created the image).
