You need to go into the Connection Settings on the device - the device
will not inherit the settings, because under Windows Mobile 5.0 it is
its own device (there isn't the same proxying going on as was the case
using WM2003 or earlier), and because the device is mobile.

Go into Start -> Settings, Connections tab, Connections, and click on
"Set up my proxy server"

The issue is that "Automatic" will negate the proxy server settings -
if set to Work, it will send all data out on the Work connection and
via the proxy server to the Internet. If it's set to Internet, it will
send all data out to the Internet directly (ie no proxy server). This
is the distinction, and there is no way to turn it off.

What is the proxy server info it is displaying?

What is the actual address of "strangeproxy"? Do you recognize it at
all?

Can you check with the administrators, to see if it is registered
anywhere on the network (they can check by searching the AD forest),
and also see if they have it set anywhere in a GPO if it is a computer
on the network.

I'm not sure where it is coming from, which is why I'm asking if it's
an actual machine on the network.
