How many other domains are there? Are they all in one AD Forest?

On the machine that you are pinging, assuming by single name (not the FQDN),
what DNS server is in its IP properties? Does that DNS server in its IP
properties hosting the zone name you are trying to ping? Does the search
suffix match it?

Provide an ipconfig /all of the workstation, please, as well as provide a
sample ping and its results.

Do the DNS servers themselves, have the suffix set? DNS servers are also DNS
clients when logged on to a DNS server itself and using nslookup.

Basically the way it works, if you use ping or nslookup, it will use the
machine's Search Suffix, and whatever DNS server it is using, must have a
reference to the zone that matches the suffix. Running an ipconfig /all to
confirm that the Search suffix is actually being populated. This also
assumes the DHCP CLIENT service is running on all machines.

Other than that, and not providing any examples, configs, etc, you'll have
to go with the basic rules I mentioned. But the rules are basic, and there's
nothing hidden.
