I have the same problem & get same error message. Online Support worked with
me 2 hrs. last week and couldn't resolve the issue. Meanwhile, I haven't
been able to download any updates (critical or otherwise) since July 29, 2004

FYI it is better to open a new thread for your own incident
than to try to resurrect one which is two months old.
Many readers have a message cache which is limited to a few days.

Are you really getting the subject error?
A Google Groups search shows that this code is usually only seen
with supplementary programs such as Windows Media Player.

If you are seeing this code when trying to visit the Windows Update site
I would suspect that you have a problem with malware and this would not
be an appropriate forum to try to diagnose that issue. Search a newsgroup
such as ie6.browser (aka IE6 General) for more information about how
to deal with that class of problem.
