Try restarting and navigating to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. It will
most likely redirect you to a site like http://ws03sp1.update.microsoft.com
or something of that sort.

The site is correct. The website for now is:
http://ws03sp1.update.microsoft.com/....aspx?ln=en-us

This will change in the near future. However, as to the other error, please try
the following:
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type: cmd <Enter>
4. In the Command Prompt, type: proxycfg -d <Enter> <--This will set your proxy
service to direct access and clear the proxy cache.
5. Type: proxycfg -u <Enter> <--This will set the proxy for BITS to the same
settings as Internet Explorer.
6. Type: net stop wuauserv <Enter>
7. Type: net stop bits <Enter>
8. Type: net start bits <Enter>
9. Type: net start wuauserv <Enter>

Try the Windows Update website again, and let us know what happens.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

I can manually navigate to the correct web page but both Manage Your Server
and the Control Pannel target the beta update site at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
What's up with this. Can I reset the targets to the correct page. This is
the only one of four servers acting this way. I have no idea how it got set
to the beta update?

This post helped me. I think what the real problem was is that Bits was not
running in the first place, because when I got to step 7 - I got a message
saying that bits couldn't stop because it wasn't running.

When i try proxycfg in cmd i get this:

C:\WINNT\Profiles\Administrator>proxycfg -d
'proxycfg' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Path problem? Do a search of your harddrive for that file.

OS version? Are you using the same OS and maintenance level
as the OP implied by the Subject of this thread?

Try a search?

<title>The Proxycfg.exe configuration tool is available for WinHTTP 5.1</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830605

(MSN search for
proxycfg site:microsoft.com
)
