Did you do a Repair Install that took you back to WinXP SP2, Ken? If so,
what problems were you having that you thought a Repair Install would
resolve?

Did you manage to (re)install SP3 successfully?

I replied earlier but the post never made it to the duscussion group.
I did a Repair Install with WinXP SP2 that had been slipstreamed to SP3.
After the install, Windows Update recognized my machine as SP3. I had no
difficulties with the Repair Install or with Windows Update bringing me back
to a "current" patch level. KB926141 is an"Optional Software" update.

I decided to do the Repair Install after Internet Exolorer started "hanging"
on file downloads. I could surf the web with good response but, "file
Downloads" hung for hours and never completed (Including Windows Update). I
also had numerous Errors in the System logs but, saw nothing that caused me
an overt failure. Although the problem is not critical for me now, I worry
that a "Critical" patch will come along that fails the same way.

Thanks for any help or guidance you can offer.

OT:

1. Ken, please do NOT change the subject of your post when you reply to a
thread.

2. Try accessing this and other MS newsgroups via Outlook Express instead of
that clunky web-interface. See:

Do you really need KB926141? IOW, do you or will you have occasion to use
Chinese Simplified-, Chinese Traditional-, French-, German-, Italian-,
Japanese-, Korean-, Portuguese-, Russian-, and/or Spanish-language User
Interface?

The above notwithstanding...

Had you upgraded to IE7 and/or IE8 *prior to* doing the Repair Install? If
you had, did you uninstall IE8 and/or IE7 *before* doing the Repair Install?

I would like to report miraculous healing of my system. When the last notice
of patch Updates Available came along, I included patch KB926141 without
thinking.

It installed.

The only things I recall doing that would affect my system was the following:
1. Maybe a reboot. I don't think this was it because I tried the install
several times and I normally shutdown between tries. But I can't recall
clearly doing the reboot.
2. I tried to install Microsoft Windows Desktop Search (KB940157). It
failed to install. That's another problem for another day. Maybe the
"Failed" install "Fixed" something!
