Suggestion 1: Rename temporary folder SoftwareDistribution
=======================================
1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
command in the opened window.

net stop WuAuServ

2. Click Start, Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to SDold.
4. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter. Please run the following
command in the opened window.

net start WuAuServ

Please go to the Windows Update site to test this issue. If the error
persists, please go to the following suggestion.

Suggestion 2: Rename CatRoot2 folder
=========================
1. Close all the open windows.
2. Click Start->Run, type: %windir% and press Enter.
3. Locate and open the System32 folder.
4. Find the CatRoot2 folder, right-click on it, and select RENAME. Change
the name to CR2OLD. Make sure you press Enter after typing in the new name,
so the changes are executed.
5. Close this window.

Thanks Sam!. Renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder worked. But in my
case I had to stop Automatic Update Service (WuAuServ) first before I can
rename the folder.

Dan,

Did you stop the Automatic Update Service (WuAuServ) on the PC/Server first?
If you don't stop the service you will not be able to rename the folder.
