This is an error from the Jet database engine which the WU client uses to
store information, hrDiskIO is the error. In some cases I would suspect
this is a recoverable error and that future scans would work. However, in
your case, the local Jet database file the WU agent uses may be in a
corrupted state. This database file is needed for a scan to complete and to
install updates.
Possible work around for you to try, from command prompt...
net stop wuauserv
cd %windir%\softwaredistribution\datastore
del datastore.edb
net start wuauserv
