Hi. Has anyone figured out this problem. I am a novice and trying t
reinstall vista as there was some problem and I deleted it. Now when
try to install I get the message "Failed to create a new partition o
the selected unused space [error 0x8004240f]

As I said, I am a novice.. so please give step by step instructions

You haven't really provided much information for us to go on. How are you
doing the clean install? Using your Vista DVD or a computer mftr.'s recovery
disc set? The error message sounds like you are manually installing from a
retail DVD and are selecting a partition that is too small to hold the
operating system, perhaps like a diagnostics or recovery partition.

What kind of computer do you have? Remember that we cannot see what you are
doing from here so you must be descriptive.

How old is the computer?
What is the make and model?
How large is the hard drive?

Do you get the error when you manually create the partition or are you
letting Setup create one for you?

You should try running hard drive diagnostics.
