My gut feeling says that this might actually work, although I'm not 100%
confident that something in AD doesn't rely on NS records somewhere.

I would expect that this type of configuration would require extensive
testing, and that getting support on any sort of Active Directory issue
will rightly be impossible since this is such a non-standard
arrangement.
