Memtest is not a sufficient proof of stability. You need to run Prime95.
This version will run the Torture Test, and it should run for
four hours at least, with no errors. This version runs under
Windows. I don't know how much memory it can handle, so can't
really tell you what to expect when the Options dialog appears.
When it says "Join GIMPS?", say no, and use the testing feature.

There is also a Linux version available, for Prime95, from mersenne.org.
With the Linux version, it could well be a single threaded one, in
which case, you create four folders, and execute four copies of
Prime95 to get the same stress level while testing. Each copy would be
given 1/4 of the stated available memory.

The fastest way to resolve this problem, is just pull three sticks of
RAM out of the machine. Try the sticks one at a time, and see if your
problems disappear. A single 2GB stick would be plenty to run the OS
with. If you see a major reduction in the number of errors seen,
then you need to work on your basic hardware stability. And you
don't do that while your Windows OS is running. (I use Linux for
this kind of stuff, such as overclocking runs, or RAM tweaking,
because my LiveCD cannot be corrupted if there is a crash. With
a LiveCD, you don't even need a hard drive connected. Just a
CD or DVD drive is enough. Examples of LiveCD are Knoppix and
Ubuntu.)
