Hi, Princess.
What PA Bear means is that, any time you need help from these newsgroups,
you must remember that we cannot see your computer. ALL we know about it is
what you tell us here. So far, that's not much. :>(
>> >> Windows version? IE version? WLMessenger version?
Please tell us which version of Windows you are running. Windows Live runs
on Windows XP, Vista and the new Windows 7. These come in several versions,
and WinXP and Vista have had major Service Packs released which changed the
original operating systems in significant ways. What we would advise for
Windows XP Home Basic RTM (Released to Manufacturing - in other words, the
original WinXP with no updates) might not work at all for Windows Vista
Ultimate x64 SP2! So please tell us exactly which version you are using.
If you don't know, just press the Windows logo key, type in "winver" and
press Enter.
If your question involves the browser, please also tell us which version of
Internet Explorer (IE) you are using. WinXP shipped with Internet Explorer
version 6; Vista started with IE7, and Win7 has IE8. Both WinXP and Vista
should have been updated to IE8 by now, but please tell which one YOUR
computer is using. To find out, start IE and click Help | About Internet
Explorer.
And, in this Windows Live newsgroup, please tell us which version of each
Live component you are using. This can be the most confusing because "WLM"
can mean either Windows Live Mail or Windows Live Messenger, so we often use
"WLMail" or "WLMsgr" to distinguish them. Your original post was to
"windows.public.internet.mail", so our first guess was that you were asking
about WLMail. You started with a mention of "msn\hotmail", then "the mail
link of msn messenger", then "open up my emails"...
By this time, you had us pretty well confused!
So that's why PA Bear asked for your versions of Windows, IE and
WLMessenger. You responded with "windows live messenger, the latest one."
But "the latest one" is a moving target - like "tomorrow", which never
comes. It would clarify things a LOT if you would say you are using
"Windows Live Messenger, build 14.0.8064.0206" - or whichever build number
you have. Here again, the programs have changed from one build to the next
and what is good advice for one won't work for a different build number. To
find out, start WLM (either Mail or Messenger) and click Help | About...
> im not exactly a pro at this,
We understand this. But the first thing you said in this thread was, "ive
used msn/hotmail for years". None of us were born knowing about computers.
So we had to learn enough to explain our problems well enough that someone
could help us. In "years" of using Hotmail, you should have learned enough
for that.
> hence why im here
Good! This is the right place. But we are not mind readers and, as I said,
we can't see your computer, so you MUST tell us enough correct information
that we can help you.
You can plead ignorance - or you can get help. It won't be easy to do both.
