Greetings Jordan,

You could try completely removing your contact cache store.

To do so, shut down Messenger, then clicking Start, then
Run, type:
%appdata%\Microsoft

Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and choose Delete. Then restart Messenger and see if
the problem has been corrected.

Another possible solution for this is if you've had the debug log file on and its grown too
big. To correct, go to your My Documents\My Received Folder and if you have a MsnMsgr.txt
file, delete it and then try signing in. If this works, be sure to click the Tools menu,
then Options, Connection category, then Advanced Settings button, and uncheck the box under
'Connection Logging'.

Finally, if you're still experiencing the problem and you're using a router in your network
configuration, you might want see if there is a firmware updates available for your
particular router model from the manufacturer.

Hi Jordan,

Yep, it would effect all PCs on the network in that case, so you can remove the possiblity of
that being a problem.

I'm afraid my only suggestion for you at this point is to try using 7.5 instead:
