Please state your full Windows version (e.g., Vista SP1) when posting to
this newsgroup.

> All this happened after the latest updates were installed on 2/10/09.

What updates were installed on 2/10/09?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

You may want to...

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999).

Looks! => If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE,
call the above number and ask to be transferred to the "Consumer IE queue"
(which is 47830).

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

Actually they were installed on 2/12/09 and they were the following:
KB890830, KB961260, KB960715, KB959634, KB948881, KB957831, KB905866

I suspect it was KB961260 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7.

No Antivirus application or security suite is installed.

Just windows defender

No Norton or McAfee application has ever been installed.

I believe it does. I will work on this over the weekend and let you know
what I discovered.

Sorry. It's not a virus.

The cumulative patch for IE broke the trusted sites in IE. We already tested
this on our lab.

If you are on the internet zone and click on a link that will take you to a
https site configured in the trusted sites zone, the browser will start to
turn off protected mode (as it should) but will abort with a "navigation
canceled" error.

Vista Business (PT-br). All patches applied.

This is affecting a lot of banking sites in Brazil.

Any news from MS?

Ok, I am on tech support with micfosoft right now. What do I need to
tell them to help me use a trusted web site?

KB967941 confirms my discovery that the security update did indeed cause the
problem. I opted to place the source and destination websites in the trusted
zone. In my case I do trust both sites but this solution is in itself invites
a security breach as not all sites that link to trusted sites can be trusted.
Especially those sites that are not under your own control. I hope that a
proper solution is created as soon as possible.

Your comment about antivirus software: "That could have something to do with
it. Good luck!" is all too quick to blame a Microsoft problem on a third
party. For what it is worth, we have virus and malware scanners for web
content and email on the firewall.
