Does this mean you are running Windows in 64-bit mode?
So which mode is IE running in? 32 or 64 bit?
And is iexplore.exe really running after you open links from the Start menu
or Task bar or is it explorer.exe? Hint: use Task Manager's Processes tab
or Process Explorer (distributed by TechNet) to find out. Unfortunately
I don't think you can get a breakdown of which modules are involved in a loop
but you can certainly find out which processes are and which modules are
being included under them.
I don't have either Vista or a 64-bit OS but if you have a mixed mode
situation I suspect there would also be a layer of processing called WOW
(Windows over Windows) which might not be in effect in both cases. Etc.
The IE General newsgroup would not be the best one for trying to diagnose
or find a resolution for such a factor. Cross-posting to Vista Performance.
Good luck
