Downloaded and installed the SP 2 and IE 8 offered by WU (auto) with
absolutely no difficulties and 'everything' is working perfectly. No
manipulation whatsoever was necessary, i.e. disabling of firewalls,
antivirus or spyware detection.
My system: Windows Vista H/P SP1 and IE7 , 32 bit (before installation)
Now: Windows Vista H/P SP2 and IE8 , 32 bit.
By the looks of it, it pays to wait for the official update and curb the
urge of an impatient curiosity.
Hopefully this will shed some light on the subject.

Harry.

I suspect you didn't obtain Vista SP2 through WU. MS announced the RTM
of SP2 on Tuesday (April 28), and it is available to Technet and MSDN
subscribers at this time. Are you perhaps confusing the Vista SP2 with
the Office SP2 that was available from WU this week?

I certainly was and apologize for it.
