I had to run the repair routine from the original cds after my computer
wouldn't boot anymore. now all my updated files were replaced by the original
files on the cds and thus my updates were lost. windows does not
automatically check after a repair procedure, so I searched the web for some
info and came accross this:

in order to reset the updates I ran these commands:

regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

and after that I chose to re-offer updates I had hidden before. I chose to
only inform new updates and let me choose to download and install. so after a
while lots of updates appeared and I chose to download them, however I was
never asked to start installation after downloading. I went to the site

http://www.update.microsoft.com/micr....aspx?ln=en-us

and clicked on the button 'express' hoping that this would offer me the
downloads that are availab le or even tell me if my updates are up to date.
instead I was offered to download the genuine windows check as a pre-requisit
for any further update. I don't want to have any program on my computer that
I can't control. whenever I need to verify the genuinity of my windows I use
the windows genuine check function that computes a number that is then used
to proof the genuinity.

My question: is there any program available that I could use to check if my
computer is up to date?
