Here is what seems to have worked for me! I offer it as a non guaranteed
solution. If there are problems with it would the experts please let me
know.

I used System File Checker to extract a new msvcrt.dll. From memory it came
from cab 55 or thereabouts. Then when I went back onto the internet Zapro
identified that IE6 was trying to update msvcrt.dll presumably to the latest
version. This I permitted and my problem seems to have been solved.

At the same time i had a problem with outlook express not starting because
MSOE.DLL could not be loaded. I don't know whether it is linked. I solved
that problem by uninstalling OE6. This automatically put me back to OE5
which is working ok so far. I now have the option to upgrade again to OE6
via windows update.

Hope this helps for some people.

I am getting the same message with the same error signature. I have no idea
how to resolve the problem. The internet explorer is freezing time and again.
Often in quick succession. I send the error report every time, but have no
idea what's causing it and how to resolve it. If you can help, please explain
in simple terms as I'm a big computer novice!!

Thanks for responding Noel. But I don't have Windows XP, I have Windows 98.
Would I have to do the same thing? What is the CD like? I seem to have 3 and
I'm not sure which one to use. Do I type the same thing?
Thanks. Appreciate this.

Hi Noel
This is really helpful of you. However, it's not worked! I followed your
instructions to the letter and scanned for altered files. It found a corrupt
file and I followed the instructions to restore the original file. But after
going through everything you suggested, the error report still kept coming up
and shutting down the internet. Sorry to be a pain...but what have I done
wrong?! What have I done to deserve this!!?....(dramatic!)

Noel
It's me.
Someone just wrote this in answer to someone who sounds like they've got the
same problem as me:
