See MSFT comment in a thread started by a previous "stackhash" sufferer?

That particular module name is usually indicative of memory corruption.
It's really more of a failure class.

Unfortunately there has been no further clarification on what type of "memory corruption"
this is, e.g. whether hardware related or software related.

Unfortunately also it appears the _xxxx suffix is not unique so searching for just that
stackhash prefix string may not be possible, especially on the web interface to newsgroups
that you are using. But if you use OE as your newsreader you can find all instances
of that string in downloaded message bodies. (I assume in your case WM
would allow you to do the same thing.)

Hmm... good news. You can do a web search for stackhash
and find other reports of the same sort of symptom.
Then adding MSFT to the search terms finds...
people who are just as clueless as we are... ; ]

However, looking at these other examples makes me think that perhaps
we could take the term "stackhash" literally? E.g. this may just be Vista's
way of showing a crash in module: Unknown. Previously that has been
interpreted as being a probable sign of interference from third-party programs.

In that case I would suggest you look for clues in the Stack Back Trace
of the failing thread. E.g. browse drwtsn32.log looking for the last
instance of FAULT -> (assuming an English version of Windows
and assuming that Vista hasn't changed the formatting of these dumps, etc.)
and page down to find the Stack Back Trace section. There you may
find the names of the modules which were called prior to the crash.
If you see in there a non-Microsoft module you could try assuming that
it was incompatible with Vista and causing the crash. Then you could
test to see if disabling or uninstalling the associated package changed
your symptoms. Etc.

I don't have Vista and diagnosing this symptom may be better handled
in a Vista specific newsgroup anyway. Cross-posting to a Vista NG.
I cross-posted my earlier reply to General but that was when I was
thinking that the stackhash thing was an actual module name.
Now that it appears to be just a diagnostic string I think that Performance
and Maintenance may be a better target for help with crash analysis.

Good luck
