Hello,
Download and run Jonathan Kay's fix here:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/extfix.reg

This should resolve the issue.

IMNSHO this is a bad idea, especially if the OP gets the JPG warning
because is vunerable for JPEG related exploits.

It says that because MSN Messenger 7.0.0777 blocks extensions like jpeg and
mp3. As not many viruses spread via jpgs and mp3's you can for the most
part, safely use Jonathan Kay's fix.

Yeah, for the most. You already forgot the JPEG exploit?

Because there is a JPEG exploit. Quite some software thought it was neat to
statically link a JPEG library (yeah, very smart). Not everybody has
patched their machine, so better safe then sorry.

It's more like: most users have no clue on what they can click and not.
Every day machines are infected because most users just click. Sadly there
machines start to become proxies, used for sending out spam. And the
machines can be (for a part) remotely controlled.

Those people should be disconnected from the net, and reconnected *after*
they fixed up their machine. Sadly this isn't happening yet.

Does your MSN run a virus checker on each incoming file? Turn it off, check
it, (and I recommend to turn it back on).

You have three options, change the extension of your jpegs, or zip them, or
share your files in another way (there is a file sharing option).

Just turning off stuff makes you machine more vunerable, even if you know
what you are doing.

How about trillian? Or do you use the webcam a lot?

Yeah, and I agree, instead of adding some functionality winks and other
gimmicks got the highest priority. Now guess what makes the most money :-D.

You have to run the reg entry and restart your client in order for it to
take effect.

Can you make a screenshot of the error you get and put it online? It sounds
more and more like your antivirus software is doing this.

Are you using a Dutch version of MSN, and/or AV? I am just curious which
program is popping up the window. I suspect the AV software.
