I think your log shows that you have a problem with your proxy with
anonymous connections (such as BITS). That would explain why
manual downloading works instead.

Use bitsadmin /monitor /allusers to watch transfers in action
Perhaps there would be clearer diagnostics from it when one fails?


Have you seen this article? It's a more recent compendium of suggestions
which have had clearer (IMO) writeups elsewhere.

Elsewhere I asked about the possibility of changing the acccount
information for the BITS logon but apparently this is not possible.
However, I think it would still be worth the experiment just to find
