1. Make sure you are broadcasting your SSID.
2. Make sure you named your SSID something memorable and didn't just leave
it as "Linksys". Other people who have Linksys routers in your neighborhood
may have neglected to rename their SSIDs and if you also kept yours named
"Linksys", you may be connecting to the wrong network.
3. Update your wireless network adapter drivers. Get the drivers from Sony's
tech support website for your specific model laptop.
4. Locate your wireless network adapter in Device Manager. Double-click it
to get its Properties and look on the Power Management tab. Uncheck the box
that says something like "allow Windows to turn off this device when not in
use".
5. Change the broadcast channel from whatever it is (ex. 6) to a different
one such as 11. You do this in the router's configuration utility.
